futuretense: Catherine + Sola
Southbank Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer, SE1 8XX , [Venue Details]Catherine’s subtle club-music-influenced synths and jazz rhythms pair with Sola’s expansive take on trip-hop in a truly alluring gig.
Catherine, a London-based singer-songwriter and producer, seamlessly blends soul and jazz with subtle club music influences.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Kelela, Moodymann, Sampha and Sault, her sound is both intimate and expansive. She’s collaborated with Boddika, Ryan Hope (Gabriels) and Ben Marc, and her band includes players from the London jazz collective Orii.
South London polymath Sola reimagines the formal structures of classical music through an avant-garde, Black British lens. A producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, she dismantles her classical piano background to build something entirely her own: a sound rooted in the heavy atmosphere of trip-hop, electronic R&B, and jazz noir.
Following her 2023 mixtape Warped Soul and a ‘One to Watch’ nod from The Guardian, Sola’s artistry has earned the respect of both legends and the new vanguard. Her work has caught the attention of Elton John and Doechii, and led to collaborations with Kid Cudi and Jeymes Samuel on The Book of Clarence film soundtrack.
Sola also opened for Sabrina Carpenter at BST Hyde Park, proving her ability to translate an experimental, moody sound to major stages.
